📋 Planting Directions
Planting Instructions
- Timing: Best planted in spring or fall when temperatures are cooler.
- Location: Choose a spot with full sun to partial shade (at least 4-6 hours of sunlight).
- Soil: Well-draining soil is key. Redbuds tolerate various soils, but slightly acidic to neutral soil works best.
- Hole Depth: Dig a hole that’s twice the width of the root ball and as deep as the root ball itself. Redbuds do not like deep planting.
- Spacing: Space plants about 12-15 feet apart if planting more than one tree.
Planting Steps
- Gently loosen the root ball and place the tree in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with or slightly above ground level.
- Backfill the hole with a mix of native soil and compost. Tamp down gently to remove air pockets.
- Water thoroughly to settle the soil.
- Add a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base, leaving a gap around the trunk to prevent rot.
Watering & Care
- Watering: Water deeply once a week for the first year, more often during hot, dry spells. Let the soil dry out slightly between waterings.
- Fertilization: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer.
- Pruning: Prune in late winter to remove dead or damaged branches and maintain shape.
- Mulching: Refresh mulch annually to retain moisture and control weeds.
